Does PFCF offer competitive classes for athletes who are advanced?
We do offer specific programming for our competitors. This programming is ON TOP of our daily work. If you come to class and are able to perform at a high level consistently the coaches will recommend your addition to the competition track.
We are so excited to see people push to their limits and want to be able to help any way we can!
What is CrossFit and how is it different from other fitness approaches?
Constantly varied movements performed at high intensity.
We program for General Physical Preparedness by using what CrossFit calls “functional movements” aka movements that resemble everyday movements.
The three basic programming components of CrossFit are metabolic conditioning (aka cardio), gymnastic/body weight movements (pull-ups and lunges) and weighted lifts (deadlifts, KB swings, Olympic lifts, strict presses etc). We combine these components into different cycles that are varied to keep you changing in a positive manner.
“High intensity” is a relative term to ensure that each time you come into the facility you get the workout you need that day.
How much does it cost to get started? Are there any discounts for veterans?
Unlimited memberships start at $125/month but we offer multiple discounts including family, student and Veteran/First Responder. Our membership is actually a MEMBERSHIP TO A COMMUNITY THAT HAPPENS TO FOCUS ON FITNESS.
When you talk to our current members, you will come to see that classes are only part of the support that the community offers. Nutrition/diet advice from our DOCTOR Head Coaches; every class is coached with a certified coach to ensure each athlete has the workout needed for them for the day; by performing the workout in a class setting you get to experience athlete of multiple skill levels doing “the same workout” and striving for similar goals that they will share with you.
You won’t be alone in our community. The reason we want you to come to a class before you think about joining/price is so that you can EXPERIENCE how our community is NOT like the gyms you’ve been to before if you’ve NOT been to a CrossFit facility.
We ARE a family based community and we are HAPPY to have children in the gym. It is to be noted that the children have to be able to not interrupt class and it is our community understanding that if your child is becoming disruptive it is your job to help the community and remove them for that time if they can’t calm down. We are in the process of incorporating a regular kids class and have offered “camps” and individual classes for children in the past. Families are able to have their children join as young as 14 if the parents are coming. We do already offer the Pure Elevation program that services at-need youth with recommendation from the court. As long as your kids aren’t running around where they could possibly become injured they are welcome to come hang out during class. One of our best gym experiences noted by our coaching staff was the 2024 “Little Murph” done for kids on Memorial Day.
What type of diet do you recommend?
CrossFit prescribes a “Paleo Zone” type diet plan. If you were to look at the original “Fitness in 100 words” Coach Glassman started explaining CrossFit with “first eat this: lean meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, berries, little starch and no sugar.” This is an amazing place to start but is also where our community can be helpful in learning how to gently navigate a diet change that can be a sustainable part of a healthier you. After we start putting in quality foods we then tell people to look at relative proportions of each of their dietary needs (carbohydrates/protein/fat) and the Zone diet is easy to access for all and has the goal of regulating blood sugar with more specific amounts of each of those good foods. We are lucky enough to have the amazing Dr Coleen who specializes in nutrition in her private practice along with Coach Trisha who has worked with some members utilizing her Precision Nutrition Certification.
